1. English in Mathematics
In Mathematics, we don't just deal with numbers; we also encounter vocabulary used to describe quantities and shapes.
Reading Larger Numbers
In Grade 5, we start working with thousands and ten thousands.
Example:
1,250 is read as One thousand, two hundred and fifty.
10,000 is read as Ten thousand.
Mathematical Symbols You Should Know
When you see math problems in English, keep these terms in mind:
- Plus (+)
- Minus (-)
- Times (x)
- Divided by (÷)
- Equals (=)
Example sentence: \(10 + 5 = 15\) is read as Ten plus five equals fifteen.
