1. Greetings & Farewells

When we meet each other, the first thing we do is greet, right? Let's see how we say it in English.

General Greetings:

• Good morning: Used from the time you wake up until noon.
• Good afternoon: Used from after noon until about 6:00 PM.

Saying Goodbye:

• Bye: Used to say goodbye to friends informally.
• Good night: Used to say goodbye before going to sleep.

Did you know? The phrase "Good night" is not a greeting! It is only used to say goodbye at night before heading off to sleep.

2. Self-Introduction

Once we've greeted each other, it's time to get to know one another!

Asking for a name:

• What is your name?: Used to ask someone's name.

Answering and introducing yourself:

When you've just met someone, don't forget to say:

• Nice to meet you.
• Nice to meet you, too.: Used to say it's nice to meet them as well.

Important Note: Don't forget to add the word too at the end of the sentence when you want to say "as well" or "me too."

3. Asking how someone is

Asking "How are you?" is such a polite and kind gesture.

The question:

The answer (choose based on how you feel):

• I am fine.
• I am happy.
• I am okay.
• Thank you.: You should always add this at the end of your answer.

Pro Tip: When someone asks How are you?, state your feeling and end with Thank you to be extra polite!
