N1 課題理解: Tasks Inside Natural Speech
Five items, printed options — the friendliest format in N1 listening — but the dialogues are now fully natural: fillers, self-corrections, indirect requests wrapped in nuance, and business contexts where WHAT to do next must be inferred from hints rather than commands. The ledger method carries you; this chapter tunes it for speech that never quite says "do this."
1. Indirect Instructions: The N1 Sound

The N1 twist: questions can assign tasks (取れてたっけ？→ answering "no" means YOU now book it), and hints assign priorities (先方が急いでいる = that job jumps the queue). Track intent, not imperative verbs.
2. Self-Corrections & Fillers
Natural speech backtracks: 「じゃ、月曜…あ、月曜は祝日か。火曜の朝イチで」— the ledger takes 火曜, strikes 月曜. Fillers (えーと, なんか, ほら) carry no content but buy YOU processing time too — use them to update your notes. The verdict still closes the file: 「じゃ、そういうことで」「悪いけど頼むね」.
3. Worked Script (Exam Simulation)
会社で女の人と男の人が話しています。男の人はこのあとまず何をしますか。
女：例の提案書、進んでる？
男：はい、あとはグラフを入れるだけです。
女：ならよかった。あ、そういえば、先方から今朝メールが来てて、数字の根拠を聞かれてるんだよね。
男：あ、それ、調べれば分かります。
女：じゃ、悪いけど、グラフより先にそっちの返信、お願いできる？向こう、今日の午後に会議があるみたいだから。
男：わかりました。すぐ調べて返します。

Walkthrough: initial task (graphs) → hint (client asked about figures) → explicit re-rank (グラフより先にそっちの返信) + reason (their PM meeting — a decoy: THEIR meeting, not his ③!) → confirmation echo (すぐ調べて返します). Answer ②. The confirmation echo in the last line remains the exam's gift — the listener restates the final plan in half the items.
4. Strategy at N1 Speed
- Preview printed options; note their contrast axis (which task first? whose task?).
- Ledger with intent-decoding: hints promote, assigning-questions add, そこまでしなくても trims.
- Other people's events (先方の会議) explain priorities but are never the listener's task.
- Once-only audio at natural speed: anchor on the re-rank markers (より先に, とりあえず, ということで) — they're stressed and slow even in fast speech.
