She is a careful driver."(Careful 是形容詞,用來形容名詞 driver[司機]。)
• clean \(\implies\) cleaner than \(\implies\) the cleanest
• fast \(\implies\) faster than \(\implies\) the fastest
• happy \(\implies\) happier than \(\implies\) the happiest
• heavy \(\implies\) heavier than \(\implies\) the heaviest
• easy \(\implies\) easier than \(\implies\) the easiest
• creative \(\implies\) more creative than \(\implies\) the most creative
• polluted \(\implies\) more polluted than \(\implies\) the most polluted
• significant \(\implies\) more significant than \(\implies\) the most significant
若要表示程度較低,可使用 less 和 the least(例如:expensive \(\implies\) less expensive \(\implies\) the least expensive)。
(Double Comparative)
我們只會說 "more creative",絕不能說 "more creativer";只說 "faster",絕不能說 "more faster"。
短詞改字尾(-er / -est);長詞加助手(more / most);以 -y 結尾的詞,轉 -i- 再加字尾。
• clearly \(\implies\) speak more clearly than \(\implies\) speak the most clearly
• carefully \(\implies\) listen more carefully than \(\implies\) listen the most carefully
• efficiently \(\implies\) work more efficiently than \(\implies\) work the most efficiently
• hard \(\implies\) work harder than \(\implies\) work the hardest
• fast \(\implies\) run faster than \(\implies\) run the fastest
• early \(\implies\) arrive earlier than \(\implies\) arrive the earliest
|---|---|---|---|
| good | 形容詞 | better | the best |
| well | 副詞 | better | the best |
| bad | 形容詞 | worse | the worst |
| badly | 副詞 | worse | the worst |
| far | 形容詞 / 副詞 | farther / further | the farthest / furthest |
| little(數量) | 限定詞 / 副詞 | less | the least |
| many / much | 限定詞 / 副詞 | more | the most |
Bad" vs. "Worse" vs. "Worst"
Today's weather is worse than yesterday's."(今天的天氣比昨天更差。)
This is the worst storm of the year."(這是今年最猛烈的風暴。)
不規則詞彙會完全改變形態(good \(\implies\) better \(\implies\) best),絕不會加上 -er、-est、more 或 most。
As"
Solar energy is as effective as traditional energy sources."(太陽能與傳統能源同樣有效。)
Maya speaks French as fluently as her teacher."(Maya 說法語說得像她老師一樣流利。)
不同等比較:not as ... as(或 not so ... as)
• "The old bus route is not as reliable as the new train system."
• "He does not cycle as quickly as his brother."(他騎單車不如他哥哥那麼快。)
在 as ... as 之間,永遠只能用原級(絕不加 -er 或 more:請說 as tall as,切勿說 as taller as)。
• "Living in a sustainable city is far healthier than living near heavy industry."(住在可持續發展的城市,遠比住在重工業區附近健康得多。)
• "Electric engines operate significantly more quietly than petrol engines."(電動引擎運作時,明顯比汽油引擎安靜得多。)
若要表達輕微的差異,可加上 a bit、slightly 或 a little:
• "The final exam was slightly more challenging than the practice test."(期終考試比模擬試卷稍微更具挑戰性。)
• "She completed the race a little faster than her previous personal best."(她完成比賽的速度比她之前的個人最佳成績快了一點。)
• "The more we recycle, the cleaner our oceans will be."(我們回收得愈多,海洋就會愈乾淨。)
• "The harder you practice, the more naturally you will communicate."(你愈努力練習,溝通時就會愈自然。)
• 單音節:加 -er / -est(cleaner、cleanest)。
• 雙音節且以 -y 結尾:改為 -ier / -iest(heavier、heaviest)。
• 兩個音節或以上:加 more / most(more interesting、most interesting)。
謹記比較時要寫 than(比較),千萬不要誤寫成 then(時間順序)!
Her score was higher than mine."
最高級形容詞前必須加上 the(the largest、the most important)。
