例句: I can run fast. (不可寫成:I can to runI can runs)
She must study for the test. (不可寫成:She must studies)

1. 表達能力 (Can 和 Could)

A. Can (現在的能力)

I can speak three languages.
(Cannot / Can't): He can’t swim yet.
Can you help me with this task?
B. Could (過去的能力)

When I was 10, I could run for miles.
Before I took lessons, I couldn’t play the piano at all.

(Can, Could, May)

A. Can (非正式許可)

Can I borrow your pen?
Yes, you can use it.
B. Could (禮貌/正式的請求)

Could I speak to the manager, please? (比 'Can I speak...'
C. May (正式許可)

May I leave the room early?
Yes, you may go now.

May

(May, Might, Could)

A. May 和 Might (「可能」小組)

It may rain later, so take an umbrella.
We might visit the museum, but it depends on the time.

B. Could (一般可能性)

Where is John? He could be stuck in traffic.

(X) It can rain tomorrow.
(✓) It may/might rain tomorrow.

(Must, Have to)

A. Must (內在/說話者的義務)

I must remember to call my grandmother tomorrow.
All students must wear their ID badge.
B. Have to (外在義務)

Have to (或是 He/She/It 使用 Has to) 表達來自外部的義務——例如規定、法律或權威 (如學校或老闆)。

We have to arrive by 8:30 am, according to the schedule.
Yesterday, I had to finish my essay before dinner.

  1. Mustn't (Must Not):禁止

You mustn't park here.
Students mustn’t cheat on exams.
  3. Don't Have To (沒有必要)
Don't have to

You don’t have to cook dinner tonight; we can order pizza.
She doesn’t have to attend the meeting if she is busy.

Mustn’t

5. 給予建議 (Should 和 Ought to)

A. Should (一般建議)

You look tired. You should go to bed early.
You shouldn't worry about small things.
B. Ought to (與 Should 相似)

You ought to save more money for university.

Must

  • (X) I must to revise my notes.
  • (✓) I must revise my notes.

2. 對 He/She/It 加上 's':

  • (X) She cans pass the exam.
  • (✓) She can pass the exam.

  • (X) We don’t have to bring our phones into the exam hall.
  • (✓) We mustn't bring our phones into the exam hall.
