Where the Marks Are Won and Lost

  • Transition Metal Chemistry (Q1 & Q3 - 22 Marks): The bulk of the paper assesses observations for \(\text{Fe}^{2+}\), \(\text{Fe}^{3+}\), and vanadium species. High-scoring candidates clearly distinguish between solutions and precipitates (e.g., green precipitate vs brown precipitate with \(\text{NaOH}\)) and note specific non-aqueous extraction colours (purple in cyclohexane with iodine).
