N1 ポイント理解: Nuanced Opinion at Native Speed

Six items, question-first, options printed — and the targets are now fine-grained opinions: not "does she like it" but "what does she think is the REAL problem," delivered through euphemism (婉曲), professional hedging, and stance-shifts mid-utterance. This chapter is the final calibration of your selective-listening instrument.

1. The Euphemism Codex (婉曲表現)

You hearPosition
〜かねます/〜いたしかねますNO (institutional)
必ずしも〜とは…(言えない)partial disagreement
〜と言わざるを得ないcommitted criticism (reluctant clothing)
否定はしませんがyes-but — the BUT is the point
評価する声もあるのは事実ですOTHERS approve; the speaker likely doesn't
検討の余地があるit's flawed (polite)
個人的には、ですがreal opinion incoming — attend!
あえて言えばthe carefully chosen criticism follows
惜しいのは〜overall positive, one flaw named — the flaw is the answer to "what's the problem"

The professional-Japanese law: attribution phrases (〜という声もある, 〜と評価する人もいる) present OTHERS' views — usually to sidestep them. The speaker's own stance follows 個人的には, ただ, あえて言えば. Questions ask for the speaker's view; the attributed view is printed as an option.

2. Stance-Shift Tracking

N1 speakers revise their position mid-utterance:

最初は正直、無理だと思ったんですよ。コストも時間もかかるし。でも実際に試作品を見たら、考えが変わりましてね。これは投資する価値があるな、と。
Q: 男の人は計画についてどう考えていますか。→ 価値がある(現在の意見)

The question's tense is your compass: どう考えていますか (now) takes the post-でも position; どう思いましたか・最初は? takes the earlier one. Both positions appear as options; the tense decides. Mark your notes with 前/今.

3. Worked Script (Exam Simulation)

Walkthrough: design = praised; collection = praised; access = OTHERS' complaint, dismissed (織り込み済み); the speaker's own criticism arrives after あえて言えば → 入館料 → , with the value-reason attached (日常に開かれてこそ). ③ is the attributed-view trap in its purest form. Codex + attribution law = the point.

4. The Question Types at N1

  • 一番の問題/最も評価している点: superlatives — several candidates air; the crowned one (あえて言えば, 何より, 一番は) wins.
  • どうして〜ことにしたのか: decision reasons — the 決め手 logic from N2, at speed.
  • 〜についてどう考えているか: stance questions — apply the codex, mind the tense.
  • Options are printed: pre-classify them into praise/criticism/attributed before audio; the structure of the answer is knowable in advance.

5. Final Fitness Notes

  • Once-only, natural speed, fillers included: anchor on the stance markers — they are acoustically prominent even in fast speech (ただ、あえて言えば、個人的には).
  • Train with opinion radio/podcasts (news commentary): pause after each speaker and state their position + their ONE named flaw. That's this block, endlessly rehearsable.

Summary & Key Takeaways

  • N1 ポイント理解 = fine-grained stances under euphemism; the codex decodes institutional NOs (かねます), partial dissent (必ずしも), and committed criticism (言わざるを得ない).
  • Attributed views (〜という声もある) belong to others and exist to be dismissed — the premium trap.
  • Stance-shifts split by tense: 最初は… vs でも今は…; the question's tense picks.
  • The speaker's own flaw-pick follows あえて言えば/ただ — the crowned criticism is the answer.
