But if we could zoom in thousands of times, we would see that you—and every other living thing—are made of billions of tiny "building blocks." These blocks are called cells. 1. What is a Cell?

The cell is the basic unit of life. This means it is the smallest part of a living thing that can carry out life processes (like growing and responding to the environment).

Think of it like this: If a giant Lego castle is a living thing (like a human or a tree), a single Lego brick is the cell. You can't have the castle without the bricks!

Note: In our previous topic, we learned about microorganisms like bacteria and fungi. Most of those are made of only one single cell! Humans, however, are made of trillions of cells working together.

2. The Tool of Discovery: The Microscope

Cells are so small that we cannot see them with our eyes alone. To see them, we use a microscope. This amazing tool uses lenses to make tiny objects look much bigger.

How to use a microscope safely:
