This is a very important skill for your Paper 1 exam, where you will often be asked to justify why one device or piece of software is better than another for a specific task.

1. Identifying the Right Hardware

When you are given a scenario in an exam, the first thing to do is think about what the person actually needs to do. A professional gamer needs a very different setup than a person who just wants to browse the internet while traveling.

Choosing the Main Device

Based on what you learned in the Types of digital devices chapter, you should match the device to the need:

  • Mainframes: Choose these only if the scenario involves a huge organization needing to process millions of transactions (like a global bank).
  • Desktops: Best for "power users" who stay in one place and need high performance or large monitors (like video editors).
