The Dual Process Model

The most common way to understand how we think is the Dual Process Model. This theory suggests that we have two different "systems" for processing information:

System 1 is fast, instinctive, and emotional. It requires very little effort and happens almost automatically.

  • Why we use it: It is efficient and helps us survive by making split-second decisions.
