  • Generic vs Applied Discussion: Examiners frequently penalise candidates who provide abstract textbook definitions without contextualising them to the given scenario (e.g., failing to tailor physical/intellectual/emotional/social needs specifically to terminally ill hospice patients).
  • Imbalanced Coverage: In multi-barrelled essay prompts (such as analysing both the impact on carers and the cared-for, or evaluating both understanding and treatment of disorders), candidates often neglect one dimension, capping their performance at Level 2.
