Use only calculators on the HKEAA Approved List, bearing the 'H.K.E.A.A. APPROVED' (or older 'H.K.E.A. APPROVED') label. Programmable scientific models (e.g. Casio fx-50FH II, fx-3650P II) are allowed, and you MAY keep your own formulas/programs stored in memory — HKDSE does not require you to clear it. Graphic-display (graphing) and CAS/symbolic calculators are not on the approved list and must not be used.
- AO1: To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of geographical concepts and spatial distribution patterns. (40%)
- AO2: To apply geographical knowledge and skills to identify, analyse and interpret geographic information. (40%)
- AO3: To evaluate geographical issues and formulate arguments or propose solutions. (20%)

1Plate tectonics & rock cycle
Believing that the Earth's mantle (layer Y) is entirely liquid rather than solid or semi-molten.
Clarify that while the mantle exhibits plastic flow over geological timescales, it acts as a solid or semi-molten layer under high pressure. Only the outer core is liquid.
Discussing wave erosion and wave deposition along refracted headland-bay coasts as completely isolated, independent processes.
Explain that wave refraction concentrates energy on headlands (causing erosion) while dispersing energy into adjacent bays (causing deposition) simultaneously. 4Graph, chart & data interpretation
Copying raw data directly from tables and figures into answer scripts without performing mathematical processing or trend identification.
回避方法: Calculate percentage changes, absolute differences, or identify overall patterns (e.g. 'declining at a decelerating rate') instead of repeating raw numbers. 3Fieldwork methods & questionnaires
Using generic, everyday terminology in fieldwork design questions (e.g. 'search on the internet' or 'using Google Maps').
Utilize precise, academic terms such as 'obtaining secondary satellite imagery, GIS databases, or governmental meteorological archives'. 4Coastal systems & tectonics
Drawing static, unannotated diagrams of features like tombolos or fold mountains, failing to show the dynamic evolutionary stages.
Provide sequential diagrams (Stage 1 to Stage 3) complete with dynamic arrows and annotations describing geological processes (e.g., spit development, longshore drift). 3Changing Industrial Location
Believing that Transnational Corporations (TNCs) relocate to Less Developed Countries (LDCs) with the primary, malicious intent to pollute.
Explain that relocation is driven by spatial optimization, search for cheaper labour/land resources, and proximity to emerging markets, though varying environmental laws may be an incidental factor. 4Hazards and Resilience
Using non-geographical generalisations (e.g. 'water makes soil heavy') when discussing landslides and slope failures.
Frame slope instability using professional geotechnical terms such as 'increased pore water pressure', 'heightened shear stress', and 'reduced shear strength'. 4Managing River and Coastal Environments
Assuming that sustainable river management only encompasses environmental conservation, overlooking economic and social aspects.
Always structure answers around the three pillars of sustainability, showing how hard/soft engineering balances ecology, flood control cost (economic), and public safety (social).
