You may use a scientific calculator and the Data Leaflet on every paper in this subject. CCEA follows the JCQ rule that applies across all its exams: no calculator with a computer algebra system, no borrowing a calculator from another candidate, and nothing stored in memory that could be retrieved during the exam, including formulae, notes or text. If your calculator has an exam mode, switch it on. It clears stored data far more reliably than the reset button, which only resets display settings and leaves stored programs or text in memory.

Convert time and length units before substituting into a formula
Casio fx-83/85 series (scientific)

Convert the given value to the formula's base unit as its own calculator step, for example minutes times 60 for seconds, or centimetres divided by 100 for metres, and write the converted figure on your answer line before substituting it into the formula.

Convert mass to weight before a force or pressure calculation

Chain a molar mass or mole calculation with memory recall
Casio fx-83/85 series (scientific)

Calculate the first value and store it with the memory-store key (M+), then recall it (MR) for the next step of the calculation rather than reading a rounded number off your working and retyping it.
