超棒溫習筆記：一起認識連接詞與連接副詞！

各位超級小學生，你好！

你們有沒有玩過LEGO積木，組裝過一些東西呢？是不是要用到一些小小的「連接件」才能將它們黏實，組裝在一起呢？在英文中，我們也有一些很特別的字，可以將我們的意思和句子「黏」在一起。在文法上，我們稱它們為連接詞（conjunctions）和連接副詞（linking adverbs）（有時亦稱為 linking words 或 connectives）！

在這份筆記中，我們會學如何用這些很神奇的「詞語膠水」，來構建出結構嚴謹的複合句（compound sentences）和複句（complex sentences）。


對等連接詞：用「And」、「But」和「So」連接意思

對等連接詞（Co-ordinating conjunctions）可以將兩個同等重要且獨立的主句或意思連接起來，組成一個複合句。

1. 用「And」補充資料

And 用來連接兩個相似的意思，或者補充額外的資料。

- I like apples. I like bananas.
變成了...
- I like apples and bananas.

- Tom is tall and strong.

2. 用「But」表達相反意思

But 通常放在句子中間，用來連接兩個形成對比或相反的意思。

- I want to play outside, but it is raining.
- She is small, but she is very strong.

3. 用「So」表達結果

So 將一個動作與其結果或後果連接起來。

- It was very sunny, so we went to the beach.
- I was hungry, so I ate a sandwich.

從屬連接詞：「Because」、「Although」、「So That」和「Even If」

從屬連接詞（Subordinating conjunctions）用來將主句（main clause）與從句（subordinate clause，即提供原因、條件或目的等額外資料的子句）連接起來。

1. 用「Because」解釋「為什麼」

Because 用來帶出事情發生的原因或理由。

- I am happy because it's my birthday!
- I brought an umbrella because it looked like rain.

2. 用「Although」表達出乎意料的轉折

Although 用來帶出令人意想不到的對比。它可以放在句中或句首。當它放在句首時，前面的從句結尾記得要加上逗號！

- Although he was tired, he finished his homework.（放在句首的從句後加上逗號）
- We had fun at the picnic, although the weather was not great.

3. 用「So That」表達目的

So that 用來解釋做某個動作的目標或目的（這與表達結果的 so 是不同的喔）。

- I saved my pocket money so that I could buy a new toy.（目的）
- Please be quiet so that the baby can sleep.

4. 用「Even If」設定強烈的條件

Even if 表示無論出現什麼情況或條件，結果都一定會發生。當放在句首時，記得在該子句後加上逗號！

- Even if it rains, we are still going to the football match.
- He wouldn't eat the broccoli, even if you covered it in chocolate!

當從屬連接詞放在句首時（例如以 Although... 或 Even if... 開頭），請在該開頭子句的末尾加上逗號。


連接副詞：「However」和「Therefore」

However 和 Therefore 並不是連接詞；它們是連接副詞（銜接詞 cohesive devices）。它們用來連接兩個獨立完整的句子，後面通常會緊跟著一個逗號。

1. 用「However」表達強烈的轉折對比

However 是一種較為正式的用法，用來在兩個完整句子之間表示對比。

- It was very cold. However, we still went swimming.

2. 用「Therefore」表達正式的結果

Therefore 用來在句子之間帶出正式的結論或結果。

- He studied very hard. Therefore, he got a good grade on the test.
