None of the three A2 papers involves numerical calculation, so a calculator is not needed. If you bring one, it must still meet the standard JCQ rule that applies across every CCEA exam: no stored, retrievable information of any kind, meaning no saved notes, formulae or programs. If your calculator has an exam mode, switch it on rather than relying on a manual reset, which does not clear stored data.

  • AO1: AO1: demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the specified content (25%)
  • AO2: AO2: apply knowledge, understanding and skills to a variety of health, social care and early years contexts (40%)
  • AO3: AO3: investigate, analyse and evaluate acquired knowledge and understanding, present arguments, make reasoned judgements and draw conclusions (35%)

常見錯誤

  1. 1high涉及分數: 9Extended essay technique

Writing a one-sided extended essay, for example discussing only the advantages of an approach, or only Freud's therapy without a comparison, when the question asks for both sides.

如何避免: Write the required parts as a short plan before you start, then tick each one off as your answer covers it, so no side is missing at the end.
  2. 2high涉及分數: 9Understanding Human Behaviour

Explaining a psychological theory in a two-part 12 to 18 mark question without evaluating the therapeutic intervention built on it, which caps the answer at Level 2.

如何避免: Split your plan into two labelled sections, theory and evaluation, and write a minimum amount under each before you elaborate on either.
  3. 3medium涉及分數: 4Human Nutrition and Health

Giving generic healthy eating advice instead of the specific nutrient and physiological reason for a named group, for example iron for pre-menopausal women, calcium and vitamin D for bone density, or folic acid in pregnancy.

如何避免: Match the nutrient to the group and state the physiological reason in the same sentence, not as two separate, disconnected points.
  4. 4medium涉及分數: 3Providing Services

Describing care values in vague terms instead of citing the NISCC Standards of Conduct and Practice or the specific provisions of the Carers and Direct Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 2002.

如何避免: Name the standard or the Act by its full title whenever a question touches legislation or professional conduct, then explain what it actually requires.
  5. 5medium涉及分數: 2Psychological perspectives

Misapplying terms across psychological perspectives, for example using classical conditioning terms such as UCS or CS when the question is about operant or cognitive frameworks.

如何避免: Before you answer, confirm which perspective the question is testing, and use only that perspective's own vocabulary throughout.
  6. 6medium涉及分數: 3Understanding Human Behaviour

Describing a psychological therapy in general terms instead of naming the specific clinical technique, such as Beck's cognitive triad or Rogers' Q-sort methodology.

如何避免: Learn one named technique per therapy on your paper and use its exact name and mechanism, not a paraphrase.
  7. 7medium涉及分數: 3Providing Services

Giving a vague definition of a statutory function, for example confusing a Patient and Client Council advocacy role with RQIA's inspection, registration and enforcement powers.

如何避免: Learn what each named body actually does, in one sentence each, and check the question is asking about the right one before you answer.
  8. 8high涉及分數: 4Quality of written communication

Losing marks in Level 4 bands through weak Quality of Written Communication, disorganised paragraphs, missing specialist vocabulary and grammatical errors, even when the content is largely correct.

如何避免: Plan your major essay in paragraphs before you write, one idea per paragraph, and use the correct specialist term the first time rather than an everyday substitute.
