N2 Grammar Course, Part 2: もの・こと, Formal Connectors & Written Style
Part B completes the N2 catalog with the philosophical heart of the level: the もの and こと families (a dozen meanings hiding behind two nouns), the formal に/を-connectors that power official documents, viewpoint patterns, emphatic listing, and the literary negatives (ぬ, まい). 1. The もの Family (One Noun, Seven Jobs)

ものだ's three faces are exam bait: the tense decides — plain non-past=truth (間違えるものだ), た-form=nostalgia (泳いだものだ), emotive adjective=exclamation (早いものだ). Read the sentence's time and temperature.
2. The こと Family

3. Formal Occasions: The に-Connector Suite

The judgment trio spans registers: に違いない (neutral, N3) — に決まっている (colloquial certainty) — に相違ない (written verdict). Same confidence, three uniforms; the sentence's register picks.
に限って deserves its own drill: 「急いでいる時に限ってタクシーが来ない」 — "precisely when (murphy's law)"; while に限り = "only for" (positive restriction in notices), and に限らず = "not just". Three faces of 限る plus Part A's 〜ない限り (unless) — a four-way exam favorite.
4. The を-Connector Suite

7. Written & Literary Machinery
- 〜ぬ — literary ない: 知らぬ間に眠ってしまった。（する→せぬ）
- 〜まい — will not / probably not: 二度と酒は飲むまい。＋〜（よ）うか〜まいか (whether or not to): 行こうか行くまいか迷っている。
- 〜ようではないか — let us…! (speeches): 力を合わせようではないか。
- 及び (and, legal), のみ (only), にて (at/by), より (from, formal から): 本社3階にて／10時より開始。
- 〜げ — looking (emotion): 寂しげな顔。
- 〜んじゃなかった — shouldn't have (spoken regret): あんなこと、言うんじゃなかった。
8. 文の組み立て at N2 (5 items)
The frames get longer and nest. Upgrades to your method:
- Multi-piece frames: 〜を抜きにしては…ない, 〜ないことには…ない, 〜か〜ないかのうちに — one frame can consume three fragments. Spot the frame's tail (ない, うちに) in the post-blank text and build backwards.
- Formal noun pivots: fragments like [ものの][ながらも][あまり] glue to what PRECEDES them — identify each fragment as head-seeking or tail-seeking before ordering.
- Assemble fully; the ★ is a position, not a feeling — unchanged since N5, eternally true.

Assembly: よく(③) 効く(①) 反面(②) 副作用で(④) → the ★ sits in the second slot → ★=効く（①）. The 反面 frame (A on one side, B on the other) organizes the whole sentence once spotted.
