N2 内容理解(中文): Nine Points of Expository Reading

The mid-size block is N2's biggest reading harvest: 3 texts (~500 chars) × 3 questions = 9 items. The texts are essays and explanations at published-column quality; the questions cycle through cause-effect (なぜか), referents (「それ」とは), and the author's view. Everything from N3's zone-reading holds; this chapter upgrades it for denser argumentation and introduces the N2 distractor style: the plausible over-generalization.

1. Zone-Reading, Recalibrated

  1. Question stems first (3 per text; they follow text order — zones!).
  2. One structural read: label paragraphs by JOB (phenomenon / analysis / example / turn / claim). N2 paragraphs argue rather than narrate — expect 一方で pivots and つまり compressions mid-text.
  3. Relocate per question; demand the evidence sentence; eliminate on exact wording.

2. Worked Text (Exam Simulation)

Question 1 — referent

Walkthrough: backward search — the paragraph-1 phenomenon: Answer . ① is the CAUSE of the change, not the change (cause/effect distinction inside a referent question — very N2).

Question 2 — reason/logic

Walkthrough: the following sentences supply the logic: 合わせる工夫をすればよい + the weekend example. Answer . ④ hardens an EXAMPLE into a claim — the over-generalization distractor; examples illustrate, they never legislate.

Question 3 — claim

Walkthrough: それこそが points backward to 家庭に合ったやり方 + the 重要なのだ sentence. Answer . ① is the rejected 形 (the text explicitly demotes 毎晩の夕食!). Referent + claim resolved together — N2 loves closing with a referent that IS the thesis.

3. The N2 Distractor Style Guide

StyleHow it looksKill check

Cause/effect swapthe cause (塾・残業) answering a "what changed?" questionlabel each: phenomenon? cause? proposal?

4. Language Infrastructure for This Block

  • 〜というものではない — "it's not that simple" — flags the writer pushing past a naive response; the refined position follows.
  • より… comparisons rank solutions: A より B = B wins. Options quoting A as the writer's pick misread the ranking.
  • という hearsay in openings (減っているという) — reported phenomenon, not yet the writer's view.

5. Pace

  • ~7 minutes per text (read ~2, questions ~1.5 each). Nine items — the biggest single scoring zone on the N2 paper. Protect it in your time plan: reading section order should be 短文 → 中文 → 情報検索 → 統合/主張 if you fear running out.

Summary & Key Takeaways

  • N2 中文 = 3 essays × 3 questions; zone-reading with paragraphs labeled by argumentative JOB.
  • Distractor styles: over-generalized examples, cause/effect swaps, rejected forms (より!), scope creep, zone echoes.
  • Nine points live here — time-protect this block.
