N1 Grammar Course, Part 2: Concession, the Formal Aristocracy & Sentence-Enders
Part B completes the N1 catalog: bulletproof concessions (whatever/whoever/however…), the に/を formal aristocracy that rules editorials and contracts, status & uniqueness patterns, and the sentence-enders that stamp a writer's final attitude. Plus the N1 star-question, where fragments are longer and frames nest deeper.
1. Bulletproof Concessions

いかん deserves its own drill: 結果いかんでは (depending on the result) vs 理由のいかんにかかわらず (regardless of the reason) — the same classical noun (如何) pointing opposite ways. Contracts and university regulations speak this dialect fluently.
2. The に-Aristocracy

The basis trio splits finely: に即して tracks facts-on-the-ground, に照らして consults a standard (law), に則って follows codified tradition. All three translate "in accordance with" — the noun before them decides which is licensed. That IS the exam question.
3. The を-Aristocracy

Attitude triplet: を顧みず (ignores own safety — brave/rash), をものともせず (defies obstacles — heroic), をよそに (ignores others' feelings — cold). Same syntax, three moral verdicts; the sentence's hero or villain decides.
4. Status, Uniqueness & Character

5. Sentence-Enders: The Writer's Final Stamp

Register alarm: ではあるまいか (literary essay) and のなんのって (living-room chat) may translate similarly ("really!") but can never swap sentences. N1's 問題5 tests register-fit as hard as meaning-fit.
6. 文の組み立て at N1 (5 items)
- Frames now span 3+ fragments: 〜を皮切りに／〜にとどまらず／〜まで, 〜ようが〜まいが, AはおろかBすら〜ない. Find the frame's tail in the printed stub, build backwards.
- Classical connectives glue tight: べく＋dictionary-form precedes it; まじき demands its noun after; や否や rides the dictionary form. Connection rules eliminate fragments' impossible neighbors before you even parse meaning.
- Unchanged since N5: assemble ALL four, then answer the ★ POSITION.
