No calculator is needed for either AS History paper. Both units are entirely written response, with no numerical or statistical content.

  • AO1: AO1: demonstrate, organise and communicate knowledge and understanding to analyse and evaluate key features, making substantiated judgements and exploring cause, consequence, change, continuity, similarity, difference and significance (58%)
  • AO2: AO2: analyse and evaluate appropriate source material, primary and/or contemporary to the period, in its historical context (17%)
  • AO3: AO3: analyse and evaluate, in relation to historical context, different ways in which aspects of the past have been interpreted (25%)

    Writing a one-sided AS 2 essay that agrees unquestioningly with the proposition given, with no counter-argument.

    回避方法: Build in the strongest available counter-argument before your conclusion. A response with no genuine alternative view cannot reach Level 4.

    Dismissing a historian's interpretation as "biased" instead of assessing the validity of their evidence and argument.

    回避方法: Judge the interpretation on its evidence and reasoning, not on the historian's presumed standpoint alone.

    Spending disproportionate time on the 8-mark AS 2 Part (i) question at the expense of the 22-mark Part (ii) essay.

    回避方法: Give Part (i) about 12 minutes and Part (ii) about 33 minutes. Move on once Part (i) has answered the question asked.

    Making unsubstantiated claims in AS 2 essays without precise dates, legislation, or named individuals.
