A scientific calculator is explicitly permitted on Unit 2, Animals on the Land, which includes structured nutritional calculations. Unit 1 does not restrict calculator use either. The general JCQ and CCEA rule applies on both papers: the calculator must have no lid or case with printed instructions or formulae, must not offer symbolic algebra manipulation or a connection to another device, and must not have any retrievable information stored in it, including saved formulae, notes or programs. Clear the memory before the exam and use exam mode if your calculator has one.

Leaving a weight in kilograms when calculating a daily growth rate that is asked for in grams per day, giving an answer that is out by a factor of a thousand or in the wrong unit.
回避方法: Convert the total weight gain to grams before dividing by the number of days, and check the unit the question asks for before writing the final answer.

Omitting a step in a complete-method practical question, such as a soil moisture content investigation, for example leaving out heating to a constant dry mass or the exact percentage formula used.

Giving a generic safety answer, such as 'wear gloves', instead of a hazard-specific precaution tied to the actual scenario, for example handling large cattle or agrochemicals.
回避方法: Name the specific hazard from the scenario first, then give the precaution that addresses that exact hazard, not a generic safety phrase that could apply anywhere.

Confusing nitrifying bacteria, which convert ammonia to nitrates, with nitrogen-fixing or denitrifying bacteria in a nitrogen cycle question.
回避方法: Learn the three processes as separate, named steps: fixation traps atmospheric nitrogen, nitrification converts ammonia to nitrates, denitrification returns nitrogen to the air.
