|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AS 3: Health and Well-Being | 2小时 | 100 | 3 | 33% | — |
| AS 5: Adult Service Users | 2
| AS 7: Understanding the Physiology of Health and Illness | 2
None of the three AS papers involves numerical calculation, so a calculator is not needed. If you bring one, it must still meet the standard JCQ rule that applies across every CCEA exam: no stored, retrievable information of any kind, meaning no saved notes, formulae or programs. If your calculator has an exam mode, switch it on rather than relying on a manual reset, which does not clear stored data.
- AO1: AO1: demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the specified content (35%)
- AO2: AO2: apply knowledge, understanding and skills to a variety of health, social care and early years contexts (38%)
- AO3: AO3: investigate, analyse and evaluate acquired knowledge and understanding, present arguments, make reasoned judgements and draw conclusions (27%)

5Health promotion
Listing the strengths of a social change or health campaign while forgetting to evaluate resistance or a nanny-state perception, leaving an evaluate question one-sided.
Write a for column and an against column before you draft your answer, and use both in your final paragraph. 6Health and well-being
Addressing only one or two of the physical, intellectual, emotional and social dimensions in a 9 or 12-mark holistic question, which caps the answer within Level 1 or Level 2.
List every dimension the question names before you write, and give each one at least a sentence. 3Adult Service Users
Giving a generic definition of a care concept, such as person-centred care, without applying it to the specific service user or scenario in the question.
Name the service user and their circumstances in your first sentence, then build the definition around them rather than stating it in the abstract. 2Adult Service Users
Confusing informal carers, unpaid family, friends or neighbours, with voluntary sector workers, who are part of an organised charitable service.
Check whether the person in the question is paid, organised through a body, or acting on their own as family or a friend before you classify them. 3Adult Service Users
Stopping at three or four stages of the six-stage care planning cycle instead of covering assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and modification.
Write the six stage names down first and work through them in order, rather than recalling stages as they come to mind. 3Physiology of health and illness
Giving a weak physiological explanation of Type 1 versus Type 2 diabetes that does not distinguish autoimmune beta cell destruction from insulin resistance or reduced secretion.
Learn the mechanism, not just the symptom list: Type 1 is the immune system destroying insulin-producing cells, Type 2 is the body's cells no longer responding properly to the insulin it does produce. 2Physiology of health and illness
Believing reflex actions involve conscious processing in the brain, rather than the spinal reflex arc bypassing the brain entirely.
State explicitly that the signal travels to the spinal cord and back without reaching the brain, that is what makes a reflex fast. 3Quality of written communication
Losing Quality of Written Communication marks in Levels of Response answers through disjointed structure, no clear paragraphing, and missing specialist terminology.
Plan each extended answer in paragraphs before you write, and use the correct specialist term, such as reablement or direct payments, on first mention.
