This paper does not involve calculation, so a calculator is not needed. If you bring one anyway, it must still meet the standard JCQ rule that applies across every CCEA exam: no stored, retrievable information of any kind, meaning no saved notes, formulae or programs. If your calculator has an exam mode, switch it on rather than relying on a manual reset, which does not clear stored data.
- AO1: AO1: demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the specified content (30%)

- AO3: AO3: analyse and evaluate information, sources and evidence, make reasoned judgements and present conclusions (22%)

6PIES development
Writing about only two of the four PIES headings (physical, intellectual, emotional, social) in a 9-mark or 12-mark question.
List every heading the question names before you start writing, and give each heading its own paragraph so none gets skipped. 3Applying knowledge to scenarios
Giving a general answer about healthy eating, stress or life changes that is never tied to the named character in the scenario.
Name the character and their circumstances in the first sentence of every answer, then build the point around them specifically. 1Structured short answers
Naming a single point on a 2-mark structured sub-question without the second, explanatory point, for example naming an occupational hazard but not saying how it causes harm.
Treat every 2-mark line as a point plus a reason. If you have not written the reason, you have only earned half the marks available.
Getting the CCEA life stage boundaries wrong, for example writing childhood as 0 to 10 or early adulthood as 18 to 35.
Learn the four boundaries exactly: infancy 0 to 3, childhood 4 to 10, adolescence 11 to 18, early adulthood 19 to 39.
Confusing emotional development, feelings and self-esteem, with social development, relationships and peer interaction, and writing one under the other's heading.
Keep the two apart: emotional is what a person feels about themselves, social is how they interact with other people. 3Impact of chronic illness
Describing cystic fibrosis as only a breathing condition, missing its effects on digestion, the pancreas and fertility.
When a question names a specific condition, work through its effects system by system rather than defaulting to the most familiar symptom. 3Quality of written communication
Writing the three Quality of Written Communication answers as disjointed bullet points with no specialist vocabulary.
Write QWC answers as full paragraphs: what is happening, why it matters for this person, what the effect is. Use the correct term, such as safeguarding or self-esteem, rather than an everyday substitute.
Covering only the positive or only the negative side of a self-concept or life-change question instead of both.
Before you write, jot one column for positive effects and one for negative, and make sure both columns have at least one point.
