  • Assuming that a recurring decimal like \( 0.4\dot{2} \) is equivalent to \( 0.424242... \) rather than \( 0.4222... \).
  • Treating a non-right-angled triangle as right-angled and applying basic SOH CAH TOA instead of the Sine or Cosine rule.
  • Believing that similar solids scale their volumes linearly with the length scale factor, rather than using the cube of the scale factor \( k^3 \).
  • Calculating simple interest by using the compound interest formula or vice-versa, or failing to add/subtract the principal when only interest is requested.

  • Inability to deal with negative common factors when grouping terms to factorise quadratic-like or cubic-like expressions completely.

  • Stating final coordinates to only 2 significant figures, which violates the default rubric of 3 significant figures for non-exact values.
